Chemical and Electro Processing Department

Chemical and Electro Processing Department Chemical and electro processing department aims to achieve various targets to enhance the welfare of the society through increasing the revenue of scientific research and development (R&D). Also, to achieve outstanding scientific research in various areas of the department research. Besides, enlarging the international cooperation between our department and the other research departments our institute, other institutes, universities, and local industrial sectors. In addition to concern with various environmental issues and problems and contributes to solving those problems. It is also concerned with treating pollution in air, water and soil, as well as supervising environmental assessment studies for various industries. The mission and main research fields in the department are the synthesis and production of compounds from their precursors, raw materials, ores, industrial wastes and electronic wastes. Our targets are supporting and developing the industries establishing on the synthesis, preparation, production, leaching, bio-leaching, industrial wastes and e-wastes treatment of the compounds and materials. Presenting competitive engineering and manufacturing solutions in Water Treatment Systems and waste recycling with the attempt to make minimal impacts on the environment as well. Also, providing advanced applied scientific solutions to assess and treat all types of pollutants related to industry and the environment. In addition to conduct innovative applied research, contributing to sustainable management, preserving resources and ecosystems, and using industrial waste as low-cost secondary resources that can be used in various industries and smart applications while improving environmental management. Other goals are increasing the recycling of the e-wastes, recovering value-added metals and compounds from secondary resources, and maintaining innovative solutions for pollutants removal or degradation from different industrial wastewaters.

Minerals Beneficiation & Agglomeration Department

The scope of the department is the derivation of technologies for the production of high-quality concentrates from crude ores using advanced laboratory scale equipment and pilot plant units to meet their specifications for industrial applications. The laboratory and pilot plant studies are carried out using different types of techniques to separate efficiently the valuable minerals from their gangue minerals including comminution (size reduction); size classification; gravity separation; magnetic and electrostatic separation; froth flotation; agglomeration; dewatering; and filtration.

Mining and Mineral Characterization Department

Mineral deposits are naturally occurring accumulations or concentrations of metals or minerals of sufficient size and concentration that might, under favorable circumstances, have economic value. Economic concentrations of metals or other mineral commodities are known as ore. Characterization and mining of these minerals are crucial for their beneficiations as well as industrial utilizations. Mining and Minerals Characterization Department (MCMD) carries out basic and applied research on the characterization and structural modifications of mineral deposits that can contribute to the various industrial applications of these deposits, which can add value to these deposits. Mining technologies and facilities for minerals are also targeted in this department to facilitate the extraction of these minerals. . Pyro-metallurgical Processing of Ores Department

Pyrometallurgy is a branch of extractive metallurgy. It deals with the thermal treatment of minerals, metallurgical ores, concentrates and secondary resources to recover the valuable products such as metals. Examples of elements extracted by pyrometallurgical processes like iron, titanium zinc, silicon, magnesium, calcium, and manganese. Pyrometallurgical processes are generally grouped into Calcination, Roasting, Smelting, Reduction and Refining. Pyrometallurgy Division carries out high-temperature research and process development for the production of a wide variety of primary products for industrial process in addition to solving related industrial problems. The division has experiences in different pyrometallurgical processes such as gaseous, carbothermic and metallothermic reduction, chlorination, smelting in electric arc furnace, roasting, and calcination processes. There is also substantial expertise in thermodynamics and kinetics studies for different pyrometallurgical processes. The Department aims for cooperative research for better development of pyro-metallurgical processing of minerals and secondary resources.
