Composite Materials Department

One measure of civilizations progress is the materials that identify successive epochs: Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Some material scientists argue that the current age is the age of composites. A working definition of composite material, which takes into account both the structural form and composition of the material constituents, is a material system that composed of a mixture or combination of two or more macroconstituents differing in form and/or composition and they are essentially insoluble in each other. Mainstream composites are actively changing the world, but from a manufacturing viewpoint, composites are in a tough competitive battle. Not only are materials costs substantially higher, but new and more efficient production methods have to be invented. Today, the use of composite materials in structures of all kinds is accelerating rapidly, with the major impact already being felt in the aerospace industry, where the use of composites has directly enhanced the capability of fuel-efficient aircraft in the commercial arena and new-generation aircraft in the military sphere. The increasing age of these materials is spreading worldwide, capitalizing on developments that were the direct result of a large investment in the technology over the last two or more decades The future is open to composites to be the "materials-by-design" and that they still promise to be.

Electronic and Magnetic Materials Department

Electronic and Magnetic devices are widely used in many strategic and economical sections such as power electronics, home appliances, medical, energy and food production, military and communications. The performance of such devices can be monitored by improving the electronic and magnetic properties and intriguing features in the premier form of the materials design, which can be done with the interconnection with industrial parties. The vision behinds the materials research, device engineering with the industry is to take part in building energy-efficient and sustainable systems, targeting the coming "New Egypt" and "the National Sustainable Development Strategy (Egypt Vision 2030)" in Science and Technology Basic Plan of Egypt, that supports innovation and stimulates knowledge-based economy. In the following, we shed a light on some of our research achievements in the related fields. Perovskite Solar cells

Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology Department

Nowadays, to realize faster and smaller devices, we need to design and tailor a materials on a nanoscale regime. To control the size and shape of the nanostructured materials, many process, routes and methods have been employed based on the material of interest and applications. Nanotechnology is the bridge between the nanoscience and the industrial applications. It is employed in increasing applications in today's industry and is being considered as the

Refractory and Ceramic Materials Department

Refractory and ceramic materials are the type of materials that involved in all aspects of our life. Basically, refractories are materials that can withstand to high temperature, pressure and chemical attack. Hence, they are involved in various applications such as dishes, dental supplies, building materials, electrical application, energy applications. In this regard, constant development and fabrication of refractories are a vital procedure to improve the industrial sector and keep discovering new materials for energy and electrical applications. From this point, refractory and ceramic materials have been a department in various scientific institutes in order to monitor the development of these vital materials. Refractory and ceramic materials department (RCMD) is established to monitor the constant development of industrial applications. The department is generally dealing with the manufacture of new ceramic materials in various sectors such as industrial, water treatment, medical and solar energy sectors. During the last decade, our department has achieved an outstanding progress in the manufacture of cement and concrete pastes that have been exported to several industrial factories. On the side of energy, we have produced solar receivers for solar energy plant that can withstand to high temperature and achieve the highest overall energy. This is besides to the production of photocatalytic materials that has been successfully implanted in the purification of waste water. Since the development of any country is measured by its progress in energy and industrial applications, our journey has been and will be full of achievements in these fields which as we hope will serve the community.
